I think in the end, Snape’s good actions balanced the bad, but ignoring his flaws does a disservice to him and J.K. Rowling.  His relationship with Lily was an obsession, not love.

I don’t ship Snape/Lily at all but.. did you even read the books?

When Snape told Voldemort about the prophecy he didn’t know that Voldemort would decide it was Harry. As soon as he found out the Voldemort was going to go after Lily and her child (and by extension James) he first tried to beg Voldemort not to, and, when that didn’t work he went to Dumbledore and switched sides in exchange for Dumbledore protecting the Potters.

He tried to save them all, even the person he hated most in the world, because of his love for Lily.

Snape is far from perfect and his love is not either. But let’s not lie about his actions.

I find it very hard to believe that Voldemort wouldn’t have found & gone after Hermione’s parents. No matter how strong her memory charm on them was didn’t mean that Voldemort, one of the most powerful wizards of all time, wouldn’t have been able to break it and find/torture them/hold them hostage.

And, eventually, he might have. But he was sufficiently busy during the events of Book 7 not to be bothered to personally hunt down one muggle born’s parents.

If Harry had gone into hiding and refused to come out then he might have needed to.

What James and the Marauders did to Snape was just straight up bullying.

There is a fucking difference.

I dunno. always thought t was pretty obvious, even in the sixth book, that Dumbledore had (to some extent) chosen his death. And that Snape was still good.

I never once thought Snape had gone back to Voldemort for realsies.

I stll sobbed like a baby at Dumbledore’s death though.

I agree with most Anxiety Cat postings.

But this one in absurd and impossible. If you hold your breath, even if you did it until you passed out, you would not die. Once you passed out your body would automatically restart your breathing and you would be fine. Obviously this doesn’t happen if something is obstructing your airway or you are underwater but one doesn’t usually do breathing exercises in those situations.

This is why when children try to get their way by holding their breath it is laughable.
