I like this. This is good, this is very good. Everyone should read this and understand it. A lot of what Irene did was a little bit not good. She’s still a great character, but yes, flaws, bad morality type stuff, yes, everywhere. Look. Read.

I can’t words right now, but I had to say something about this. The thing is, the issue is only sort of tangentially “morality”. Nobody on Sherlock is highly “moral” in a traditional sense; they conform to their own standards because nearly everyone on Sherlock believes that the end justifies the means. Greg consults Sherlock, who isn’t supposed to have access to half of what he does. John shoots people and gets away with it. Sherlock breaks into houses. The list goes on.

Irene drugs people and beats them for a living. The issue here is consent. Because Sherlock does not consent to Irene drugging him, or beating him, that’s not okay. That’s abusive. But had he consented, it would have been fine regardless of the gender of the Dom. Doing those things to anyone without consent is what’s “a bit not good.” Being a dominatrix isn’t bad, or immoral, as long as there’s consent. And it definitely isn’t somehow more immoral or more wrong if the Dom is male.

Also I would like to state for the record “we all” didn’t think it was sexy, because I didn’t find any of what Irene did to be sexy. I was too busy feeling badly for Sherlock, and awkward on his behalf, which is exactly the same way I would feel if the genders were reversed.

On a rewatch of The Reichenbach Fall today, I noticed something a little odd. Mrs Hudson says ‘Is everything okay now with the police? Has, um, Sherlock sorted it all out?’

Really you would have thought she’d know his name a little better; she genuinely looks like she has to mentally search for it. Maybe someone else is involved and she’s covering?

Unless someone else has come up with something much more legit in which case I’ll retreat to my corner quietly

When you watch it all fast, you just get Sherlock as this stoic, unfeeling sociopath. But in these frames you can see his acting skills. The emotions that get through this barrier, that Benedict plays across his face for a split second.

So much respect for this man.
