STFU, RACISTS!: STFU RACISTS asks about… Dia de los Muertos
First, an apology.
Did a white person ask me, a white person, my opinion about white people participating in Dia de los Muertos? Yes.
Did I give my opinion? Yes.
Did me or the reader think she was asking permission or that I was giving it? No.
Did it appear to other readers that a…
GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS DISCUSSION.
AND THEN LOCK YOUR DOORS AND NEVER COME OUT.
look at all the crackers already crawling out of the woodwork in the notes to whine about how “everything is cultural appropriation, whine whine can’t have ANYTHING”
unfollowed like whoa
wow this is magnificently gross
also, feeling kinda slow on the uptake here but uh. what the fuck is a white person doing running an anti-racism blog in the first goddamn place?
esp one who’s apparently a huge racist, lol
lol @ the person who’s like “i feel like everything is cultural appropiation”
no stfu and never talk again what are you even doing in this conversation for fucks sake
I would think that, even if one heard differing opinions on whether or not doing something is racist and was unsure, you would want to follow that side that has no chance of having you be a racist asshat.
see, you would think that, because it’s reasonable and logical, but the “well this person/groups says it’s okay” is the oldest trick in the book.
It’s almost as much of a trope as “But my best friend/coworker/partner is xyz!”

So reading through all this massive feminist fail on Tumblr in regards to cultural appropriation. It is blowing my mind right now. This will be rambly since I’m really just putting it down as I read more and as the thoughts occur to me.
POOR WHITE PEOPLE. THE ONE “NEGATIVE” ASPECT OF YOUR PRIVILEGE IS THAT YOU CAN”T WEAR A NATIVE AMERICAN HEADRESS AND BORROW SACRED THINGS TO WEAR JUST BECAUSE THEY’RE PRETTY. LIFE IS SO HARD BEING WHITE.
Seriously. SERIOUSLY. I’m white. As a white person living in a colonized country I benefit so much from the horrible things my ancestors did to Native Americans (and other POC). You get all these benefits but you still can’t even show respect to another culture by not appropriating things of cultural signifigance?!
And to those arguing about being unfairly blamed for shit you didn’t do? Guess what. YOU DID DO IT. YOU ARE STILL DOING IT. Because these people are still being oppressed by the system. And you are supporting that systemic oppression. I am racist. Unless our system changes I will always BE racist. I can fight against that privilege and the system but so long as it is in place there is racism that I am part of.
Don’t get all offended if someone calls you out for something racist or bigoted or problematic. Look at your own privilege and think if it is REALLY SUCH A BIG DEAL THAT YOU BE ABLE TO INSULT PEOPLE WITH YOUR LANGUAGE OR ACTIONS. Because that is what you are fighting for.
And yes. Your race is fucking relevant to what we are dicussing. The fact that you think it isn’t just shows more unexamined privilege.
So during the movie, anyone else like, HEY THAT’S KATARA’S MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH!
Ain’t seen the movie yet but my goodness the Gaang look so… …. … white. Yeah. ;-;
That’s because all the good guys in the movie (the Gaang) are white. All the bad guys and poor or homeless ”lesser” people in the film are racialized.
It’s awful.

My husband, Dan, pulled out a drowning family from his apartment building’s pool.
The dad was dead when he pulled him out. He started CPR. He didn’t stop until he was breathing again.
Did I mention the family was Arabic? And my husband is stationed OVERSEAS in Bahrain?
His ability to look past race and save 3 lives GMH!
Why does race have to come into it at all? Clearly this person is not “looking past race”. Gah. How did this even get on here.
Also, nitpicky CPR note: If the father was dead there would be no physical way to bring him back. Either he had stopped breathing, or he had stopped breathing and his heart was in irregular rythm. Nothing super human about doing CPR in the exact situation in which you are supposed to use it.
Though I am shocked the CPR even worked without an AED. As CPR on its own has a 6% chance of restarting the persons heart. /lifeguardmode
I didn’t want to reblog the entire post, but the anecdote about a five year old white girl who is enraged because a BLACK BOY took her swing says everything you could want to say about race relations in America without having to go into some long, drawn-out lecture about power structures and latent racism, etc. Read it.
do i really need to say anymore?
and if you don’t get it, read “if person of color” and fill in the flaw.
you do see the problem, right?
Of course, part of the priviledge of being white is that you never need to play the race card yourself. You get the “unfair advantage: personally - professionally - politically” and never have to worry about being accused that it’s because of your race.
UGH. THIS CARD IS SO STUPID I CANNOT PROPERLY CONVEY.
