I’ve been bullied, and I’m NOT justifying it, but give him a break!
What Harry and Draco had going on was dislike.
What James and the Marauders did to Snape was just straight up bullying.
There is a fucking difference.
I dunno. always thought t was pretty obvious, even in the sixth book, that Dumbledore had (to some extent) chosen his death. And that Snape was still good.
I never once thought Snape had gone back to Voldemort for realsies.
I stll sobbed like a baby at Dumbledore’s death though.

I don’t date Muggles or Muggle-borns. It’s not racism, just a preference. I’ll date Half-bloods if they grew up in the magical world, though.
Is it true all Muggle-borns have longer wands?
It’s not MY fault Purebloods are naturally more powerful.
I’ve never personally experienced “Pureblood Privilege”, so it doesn’t exist.
How come you can call other Muggle-borns the M-word, but I can’t? How is that okay?
Purebloods suffered persecution from Muggles, but you don’t hear uscomplaining about it. Bootstraps!
I think it’s even MORE racist to assume that I have “privilege” because I’m pureblood!
ANYONE can be a Mudblood, not just Muggle-borns!
It’s not my fault Mudbloods often live up to the stereotypes!
Muggle-borns just happen to be more dangerous and prone to violence because they come from such un-magical backgrounds.
If you hate the Wizarding world so much why don’t you leave Hogwarts?
If a Pureblood calls you a Mudblood, it’s automatically racist? But you can call me a Death Eater and that’s NOT racist? That’s so unfair!
Words only have the power you give to them. Besides, Mudblood now means “friend” anyway, so there’s no problem with me using it! Mudblood Mudblood Mudblood!
How can I have pureblood privilege? I’m a Black wizard! You know the Wizarding world is Eurocentric. Wait…what’s intersectionality?

So I got my tattoo yesterday.
I originally wanted to on my wrist but the writing would not have fit (not legibly). even with the slight change in location I am beyond pleased with it.
It hurts in a throbby way atm. Because it was rubbing my blankets when I slept. Other than that no problems. It was only slightly more painful to get than my arm tattoo.
It’s finally printed! :D
Did you make these prints yourself?
I would lovelovelove to own this. /huge Harry Potter geek
Something like 80% of the people in the world who think they are Slytherin only say that because they “identify” with the “evil” house. NO. NO. WRONG!
Slytherin is about AMBITION and CUNNING. But the sad thing is, the only Slytherins Harry ever meets fall into one of two categories: EVIL, or WEAK. Evil counts as Voldemort, the Malfoys, etc. Crabbe and Goyle fall under weak. The closest thing to a true Slytherin that we get is Slughorn, and in Harry’s eyes we see that Slughorn is, again, a weak and dislikeable character. We never see a strong, sympathetic Slytherin character!
Harry Potter is a teenage boy and easily influenced. Not to mention, all of Wizarding society seems to concur that Slytherin is the house of the evil. From the very start, when Ron tells Harry about everybody in Slytherin going bad, Harry’s view of Slytherin is forever doomed. There ARE Slytherins who stayed out of these things! Who don’t care about blood purity! It’s not about the Dark Arts, or bloodlines, or evil.
It’s about being ambitious, reaching for your goals and being cunning with how you achieve them. Being SLYTHERIN does not mean you can not BE GOOD. You can have MORALS and hold to them just as easily - or not - as ANY OTHER HOUSE.
And while I’m on the subject, Slytherin bears the most direct brunt of Harry’s bias, but the other houses all suffer, too.
Hufflepuff is often considered the weakest house. In part, that’s the Sorting Hat’s fault. In our first description of Hufflepuff, we get that Helga Hufflepuff took in all the rest. HOWEVER you have to understand that definitions do change. So does the Hat’s song.
As I see it, Hufflepuff actually has the potential to be the STRONGEST house. It is later stated that Hufflepuff’s primary attributes are that of LOYALTY and HARD WORK. Loyalty, of course, is a key, admirable trait! And anybody who thinks less of somebody for having loyalty is bound to have few meaningful relationships in life. YEAH, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.
Then, you have HARD WORK, and in with Hufflepuff’s “all the rest” you have an instant sense that this is a house of ACCEPTANCE. Everybody needs a place to belong. That can be Hufflepuff - but it’s not a matter of NOT SMART ENOUGH or NOT BRAVE ENOUGH or NOT CUNNING ENOUGH. It’s a matter of neither of those being your PRIMARY PERSONALITY ATTRIBUTES. Maybe the fact that you are a hard-worker comes first. Your morals, your religion, your friendships, your family, whatever it may be, SOMETHING ELSE DRIVES YOU FIRST. And that’s okay.
And never let it be said that HARD WORK doesn’t get you places. You can be the SMARTEST RAVENCLAW, or the MOST AMBITIOUS SLYTHERIN, and the most DARING GRYFFINDOR, and you’re getting nowhere in life if you don’t have the will to put your back into it. Hufflepuffs may not be the best in those areas, but they can make up for it with sheer willingness to do what they must.
Hufflepuffs are formidable. But the only two Hufflepuffs who tend to stick in our minds are Cedric and perhaps Ernie or Zacharias. Cedric is a proper Puff. He’s strong, brilliant, he’s a good man. And it’s a horrible truth that he died before we could really know him. Meanwhile, Ernie and Zacharias were generally just pricks.
The only other impression of Hufflepuff we get is from the first-years who dare to tease Neville Longbottom. Neville ends up believing that he SHOULD be a Hufflepuff, not a Gryffindor, because he is nervous. We all know how strong Neville is, how patently untrue that turns out to be - but for God’s sake, being Hufflepuff is NOT a bad thing as these young bullying students would have you think!
Ravenclaw, of all the houses, probably gets the least distortion. Ravenclaw is about intelligence and wit. It’s about books and knowledge and striving for your passions, for what you most deeply cherish!
The only thing is that our only impression, again, of a GOOD RAVENCLAW, is Luna Lovegood. And I love Luna. Dearly, do I love her. But she’s NOT a typical Ravenclaw. She’s a tad spacier than most of them. She DOES belong in Ravenclaw, however - she follows her own path, she studies and loves to learn; the only problem is that the things she loves to learn aren’t standard class subjects, but her own “make-believe” creatures, and things.
Otherwise, we get Cho Chang and Marietta Edgecombe. Cho we only see through Harry’s eyes, as with every other character - at first a wonderful, beautiful person, and later a whiny, blubbering, jealous girl. And Marietta simply betrays the entire DA. No big deal.
In short: Ravenclaw gets portrayed as somewhat insane. Perhaps luckily, the stereotype of the “bookish nerd” tends to overcome THAT particular possible assumption - but it’s no less there.
All the houses, aside from Gryffindor, are seen very negatively in the Harry Potter books! And as a result, most of the fandom, most of the readership, seems to assume all these stereotypes that apparently can’t be viewed without taking time to realise just how biased Harry is, whether he knows it, likes it, or not.
THIS ADVERSELY AFFECTS GRYFFINDOR’S PUBLIC OUTLOOK, TOO! Gryffindor is seen as brave, strong, and pure. While those are all true of the BEST of Gryffindor, the problem is that ALL THE HOUSES can have their GOOD and BAD people. We mostly see Harry, Ron and Hermione - clearly all paragons of virtue. Perhaps we get a hint of it, with Lavender Brown, but aside from her? Nobody seems to realise that GRYFFINDORS CAN BE BAD, TOO.
For Lavender, her brashness only serves to make her an insipid girl who cares only about herself, and holds a lack of empathy for most others - ignoring Ron’s clear signals for her to get away, for example. She’s not altogether bad, but she could be very annoying. And is.
Behind the scenes, however, Gryffindor can be seen as much darker. With bravery and self-confidence that all Gryffindors are known for, there CAN ALSO BE ARROGANCE. And, for that matter, CRUELTY.
Harry loves the Weasleys, and would never think bad of them, but just for a moment I want you to consider Fred and George. I adore them, but if they didn’t take a prank too far once or twice, I’d be shocked. In fact, I’d bet that the rest of the school sees them not as pranksters, but as menaces. And moreover, I bet that some of them - particularly the Slytherin firsties - see them as bullies. Which, to an extent, they might be. They are good at causing mayhem, but they are also the kind, with their bravery, who can easily take it too far.
EVERY house has its issues and its strengths. Gryffindor is no exception to this rule.
I wish we had seen more of Harry in the epilogue, or at least, some kind of grown up Harry. In telling his son that Slytherin was okay, we see a complete flip-flop from Harry’s school years, whether Harry admits it or not. I think by then he HAS grown up and noticed that the PUBLIC PERCEPTION of the houses is mostly a mixture of stereotypes perpetuated by society and the work of Voldemort’s notorious Slytherin ancestry, which automatically caused society to paint other Slytherins all with the same green and silver brush.
THERE IS MORE TO THE HOUSES THAN WHAT WE SEE ON THE SURFACE. HARRY IS WONDERFUL. HARRY IS A HERO. I LOVE HARRY. BUT THAT MAKES HIS BIAS NO LESS WRONG.
I wish people would just understand that.

I never saw this because I did not follow you back then! But I LIKE IT
The above is brilliance!
Absolutely fantastic! And totally freaking true.
This is especially relevant to me after all the drama and freaking out I saw when people were first getting sorted in Pottermore. As people were mostly thinking of the houses in the way Harry does in the books, as stereotyped and not really what they are.
Lily would’ve been able to protect herself instead of protecting her baby. But she wanted to have Harry, so things went the way they did.
Also, they are fictional characters so I’m sure J.K. Rowling would’ve figured something out…
Neville. It is repeatedly covered in the books that the prophesy about the chosen one just mentioned a child born at the end of July to parents that had thrice defied Voldemort. And it could have been either Neville or Harry. But then Voldemort choose Harry and thus made him the chosen one.
If Harry had been aborted then Voldemort would have gone after Neville. Who would have defeated Voldemort like the BAMF he is.
