Never Have Just One Serving…: failedblackwoman: misssynph: so it has taken me a while to realize…
so it has taken me a while to realize it,
but ut white people really do get weirded out when POC are like “well where are we represented (positively) in media”
i mean to non-POCs it’s no big. you’re in everything,
but what if you weren’t?
what if your favorite book series made sure that everyone had dark brown skin and kinky black hair?
What if the only actors/musicians/tv stars that were getting accolades for their characters looked nothing like you?
don’t mean what if they don’t match your body down to a T, but what if you could could turn on a channel or go on a website and not see a white person for pages/hours?
and what if when you went online to complain, you were told to get over it because at least you people are in things now? or worse, that’s not racism. you’re being too sensitive?
because that’s what being a POC is like.
it’s not seeing a person of your skin color positively portrayed or fleshed out for several episodes/chapters/films. it’s the way some fandoms like to shit on the brown skinned characters completely or pretend that they don’t exist. it’s characters of color not existing in fanworks and barely existing in the canon media
it’s being angry and told to sit down and shut up because slavery is over.
and it sucks that sometimes non-POC don’t get that,
what it’s like to straight up not exist.
These day to day experiences wear on me so much, and I don’t even realize it
Completely co-signed and tbh it’s one of the reasons I keep spamming about Mass Effect so much since i started playing...
