Well, I was initially under the impression that there would be no white people, because their blog is fairly defensive about their stance. It’s borderline heavy-handed, and while I certainly understand why they would be that way, they should let the game speak for itself a bit. I could almost see it being discouraging for Caucasians who might be interested in playing the game. I’m not complaining, mind you, I can just see how folks could initially get the wrong impression with how they’re advertising the game and promoting it on their blog.

I’m sure the poor white folk will get over it, and if complaining about no caucasians in the game ISN’T COMPLAINING you are doing something EXTREMELY wrong. SERIOUSLY. The game DOES speak for itself, but no one likes to fucking read. And then WHITE PEOPLE, like you, came in with your badgering ass selves complaining and complaining and complaining and like any normal damn human being, they got tired! White people are DISCOURAGED because the game doesn’t sit around pandering to their feelings? What about all the PoC who put up with nothing but white characters for fucking ever? I guess it’s okay because the games didn’t SAY they were going to exclude everyone, they just did it! That’s way worse, right?

If that’s not what you think, there’s no reason to even open your mouth.

One of the things I’m also not clear on is whether or not there will actually be any straight people. The MC and their love interest are both genderqueer, and while that doesn’t bother me, I could see how some POC would prefer to perhaps have the option of seeing heterosexuals in the game as well. I don’t do video games, but I do write novels, and I have varying relationships within, even polyamory. I’m interested to see how far they go with the game.

Actually, not a SINGLE PoC has approached buggering about the lack of straight people. It has ONLY been white people complaining about the lack of white people. Period. So. Again. Wrong. Seriously wrong.

So it’ll be interesting to see how the game turns out. I look forward to learning more as they continue development.

First off, I am white. Second, fuck that shit.

Looking in my library of games, which is fairly sizeable, I can think of VERY VERY few games that have POC in them at all. Let alone have a majority of POC characters, or having a POC as the main character. Yet when I have seen this critiqued by POC they are told, “Get over it”, “You’re reading too much into it” and “No, look, [insert minor, usually stereotyped, POC character] is in it”. And, surprise suprise, nobody listens or cares.

Yet a “similar” and reversed situation happens and we need to man the alarms and battlestations. OH NOES! SOMEONE IS TRYING TO MAKE MEDIA THAT DOESN’T EXCLUSIVELY CATER TO WHITE PEOPLE! PANIC! I use scare quotes around similar because a reversal of this situation is obviously much different based on privilege and power dynamics.

Finally, who the FUCK cares if white people are discouraged from playing it? The vast vast majority of all other media is aimed at us. So who gives a shit if white people are discouraged from playing one game? (Aside from the fact it makes them preeetty racist I mean.)
